Many people are familiar with text-to-speech apps that are downloaded onto a computer or phone, but did you know that many smartphones have their own built-in text-to-speech programs? ๐ฑ โฃ

๐ถ๐ฃ๐ต๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ธ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป is an accessibility option that will enable the iPhone to read aloud all the text on the phone screen. Whether you are browsing through the IG app, checking the weather on your phone, or reading online news articles on Safari, iPhone Speak Screen can read aloud almost any text displayed! ๐ โฃ
โฃ
In order to enable it, go to ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ > ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ > ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐โฃ
โฃ
Here, you can turn on iPhone Speak Screen. When enabled, you can swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen and all text on the screen will begin to be read!โฃ
โฃ
Thereโs also some great customization options available as well. ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ธ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป will allow only text that you highlight to be spoken aloud, while ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐น๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ will have the iPhone highlight individual words as it reads aloud text. ๐ฃโฃ

Additionally, you can modify the ๐๐ฐ๐ช๐ค๐ฆ๐ด settings to pick a voice and dialect that you prefer, change the ๐๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ต๐ฆ to make it faster or slower, and dictate how you want certain words/names/phrases to be spoken in ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ค๐ช๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด.โฃ

Most smartphone brands outside of Apple will also have accessibility features that allow for text-to-speech options as well, and can be found in the Accessibility settings. Given that smartphones can do so much these days, it is helpful to have a program such as Speak Screen available for those with reading problems. Consider trialing this feature out with clients who want to get the most out of their smartphone!โฃ
